Commandments of the Lord
What do you think friends?
Do you have what it takes within you to be a True Christian?
John 14: 15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
Luke 6: 46 And why call you me, Lord, Lord; and do not the things which I say?
Friends, the commandments of the Lord are not simply some few bullet points to memorize and then quiz random people on camera to somehow show your supposed superiority by asking the people if they know them. They are not simply words to memorize, they are a way of life.
Ten Commandments
Exodus 20: 1 And the Lord spoke all these words saying: 2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 You shall not have strange gods before me. 4 You shall not make to yourself a graven thing, nor the likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. 5 You shall not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord your God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: 6 And showing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.
8 Remember that you keep holy the Sabbath day. 9 Six days shall you labor, and shall do all your works. 10 But on the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God: you shall do no work on it, you nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your beast, nor the stranger that is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it. 12 Honor your father and your mother, that you may be longlived upon the land which the Lord your God will give you. 13 You shall not commit murder. 14 You shall not commit adultery.15 You shall not steal. 16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house: neither shall you desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
Deuteronomy 6 1These are the precepts, and ceremonies, and judgments, which the Lord your God commanded that I should teach you, and that you should do them in the land into which you pass over to possess it:That you may fear the Lord your God, and keep all his commandments and precepts, which I command you, and your sons, and your grandsons, all the days of your life, that your days may be prolonged. 3 Hear, O Israel, and observe to do the things which the Lord has commanded you, that it may be well with you, and you may be greatly multiplied, as the Lord the God of your fathers has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey. 4 Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength. 6 And these words which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: 7 And you shall tell them to your children, and you shall meditate upon them sitting in your house, and walking on your journey, sleeping and rising. 8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be and shall move between your eyes. 9 And you shall write them in the entry, and on the doors of your house.
10 And when the Lord your God shall have brought you into the land, for which he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: and shall have given you great and goodly cities, which you did not build, 11 Houses full of riches, which you did not set up, cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and oliveyards, which you did not plant, 12 And you shall have eaten and be full: 13 Take heed diligently lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall fear the Lord your God, and shall serve him only, and you shall swear by his name. 14 You shall not go after the strange gods of all the nations, that are round about you: 15 Because the Lord your God is a jealous God in the midst of you: lest at any time the wrath of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and take you away from the face of the earth. 16 You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted him in the place of temptation.
17 Keep the precepts of the Lord your God, and the testimonies and ceremonies which he has commanded you. 18 And do that which is pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you: and going in you may possess the goodly land, concerning which the Lord swore to your fathers, 19 That he would destroy all your enemies before you, as he has spoken.
20 And when your son shall ask you tomorrow, saying: What mean these testimonies, and ceremonies and judgments, which the Lord our God has commanded us? 21 You shall say to him: We were bondmen of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand. 22 And he wrought signs and wonders great and very grievous in Egypt against Pharaoh, and all his house, in our sight, 23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in and give us the land, concerning which he swore to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded that we should do all these ordinances, and should fear the Lord our God, that it might be well with us all the days of our life, as it is at this day. 25 And he will be merciful to us, if we keep and do all his precepts before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.
Mark 12: 29 And Jesus answered him: The first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord your God is one God. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind, and with your whole strength. This is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like to it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
Matthew 6: 9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
14 For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences.15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences.
16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But you, when you fast anoint your head, and wash your face; 18 That you appear not to men to fast, but to your Father who is in secret: and your Father who sees in secret, will repay you.
19 Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal. 20 But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth does consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there is your heart also. 22 The light of your body is your eye. If your eye be single, your whole body shall be lightsome. 23 But if your eye be evil your whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in you, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be!
24 No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment?
Matthew 5: And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him. 2 And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. 5 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God. 10 Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: 12 Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.
13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. 16 So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
17 Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18 For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, that unless your justice abound more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 You have heard that it was said to them of old: You shall not kill. And whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. 22 But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council. And whosoever shall say, You Fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 If therefore you offer your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has anything against you; 24 Leave there your offering before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to your brother: and then coming you shall offer your gift.
25 Be at agreement with your adversary betimes, while you are in the way with him: lest perhaps the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. 26 Amen I say to you, you shall not go out from thence till you repay the last farthing.
27 You have heard that it was said to them of old: You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 And if your right eye scandalize you, pluck it out and cast it from you. For it is expedient for you that one of your members should perish, rather than that your whole body be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand scandalize you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is expedient for you that one of your members should perish, rather than that your whole body be cast into hell.
31 And it has been said, whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce. 32 But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, makes her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, commits adultery.
33 Again you have heard that it was said to them of old, you shall not forswear yourself: but you shall perform your oaths to the Lord. 34 But I say to you not to swear at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God: 35 Nor by the earth, for it is his footstool: nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king: 36 Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.
38 You have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. 39 But I say to you not to resist evil: but if one strike you on your right cheek, turn to him also the other: 40 And if a man will contend with you in judgment, and take away your coat, let go your cloak also unto him.
41 And whosoever will force you one mile, go with him other two, 42 Give to him that asks of you and from him that would borrow of you turn not away.
43 You have heard that it has been said, you shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: 45 That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who makes his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and rains upon the just and the unjust.
46 For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this? 47 And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this?
48 Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect.
John 14: 15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
Luke 6: 46 And why call you me, Lord, Lord; and do not the things which I say?
The Bread of Life
John 6: 47 Amen, amen I say unto you: He that believes in me, has everlasting life.
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven; that if any man eat of it, he may not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven.
52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world.
53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.
55 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.
56 For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed.
57 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me, and I in him.
58 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eats me, the same also shall live by me.
59 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eats this bread, shall live for ever.
60 These things he said, teaching in the synagogue, in Capharnaum.
61 Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard, and who can hear it?
62 But Jesus, knowing in himself, that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Does this scandalize you?
63 If then you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
64 It is the spirit that quickens: the flesh profits nothing. The words that I have spoken to you, are spirit and life.
